Want to know what is the fastest way to increase the value of your bike? "The quickest way to make your bike more useful? One way to get a lot more challenging, and more pleasure to your bike? One sure way to become a genius of the bike? Easy: give it a rack (barbecue) to your bike.
few decades ago, most bikes in the U.S.. UU. were already with a rack, or at least come designed (ie the box had holes necessary) so that they could put a rack (or two) easily. At the time of the bike that now seems so remote and they will set in approximately 9 TO * , the rack (like the fenders) was very common on bikes. It was difficult to find a bike that did not have / could have racks. Sometimes these racks were integrated into the picture. Other times the rack was painted the same color of the table. Today, the rack is considered an 'accessory' a bike, and many (though not all) of the bikes sold in bike stores in the U.S.. UU. (And PR) are not designed to bring them rack (professional cyclists do not need to put a bike rack competition). It is also the phenomenon today of some (but not all) urban cyclists who do not want put a rack on your bike because they believe that alter the appearance, or the 'look' minimalist of your bike. These urban cyclists who resent the rack tend to be minority, especially outside the U.S.. UU.
Good news: If you have a bike that does not have the little holes for racks in the table, there are racks for such a bike. Now There are racks for almost all types of bikes.

And what serves a rack? Why what is it you put your bike? As a rack is an area where you can put things you want to carry on the bike. For example: books, beer, food, clothing, flowers, computer, children, jev @ s , etc. A rack can serve you to put a bag designed for racks. In this bag you can store / transport many things. The rack also serves to put a basket and carry things well. Sometimes, using a rack frees you from the need to mount some kind of bike bag or backpack / back, which can sometimes be annoying and hot, especially if you carry too much weight and if the distance you ride is long.
A brief tangent: Before they became primarily a fashion accessory for some urban cyclists (though not all) - the famous messenger bags (bike messenger bags) were somewhat handy for bike messengers (courier cyclists) as those working in the city as fast delivery of documents to offices, and to them was a bag that could efficiently carry themselves in office buildings, etc.. Also, the journey of a bike messenger tends to be a short distance, and delivery are not usually very heavy. Some also disfavoured messengers bike racks because they thought it added weight to your bike, which could lengthen the time of delivery. In short, unlike racks - which are handy for all biker type, except ciclsita professional career - the messenger bags were a functional tool (The aesthetic was secondary, or simply was not important) for one type of specific Worker rider, similar to bags carried by the postman when delivered mail on foot. Note: PR is not, nor has there ever been bike messengers and the messengers that are here usually work in motor, due to urban development carrocéntrico PR was done in

Returning now to the issue. The racks come in different sizes and designed to support different weight levels. Bags racks and baskets are also available in various sizes with different capacities. The majority of these bags are waterproof, or at least water resistant (note: if you want to use bags, you can just tie your stuff to the rack with rope / bungee cord, etc.).. There are racks for the back of the bike and racks for the front of the bike (the latter tend to be shorter and lighter). Today, most of the racks are aluminum, making them very light, and stainless steel. Some racks are still made of steel, for those who want a very strong rack, and put many, many pounds. There are also racks with wood (as you see above). There are racks of different colors. There are chrome racks. There are urban bike racks and bike racks for travel (which tend to be stronger, as they are to carry more weight). There are also bike racks for work. Recently , are becoming fashionable again the bikes that come with racks, or which can be put on racks. Besides being functional, the racks can give a very classic style and elegant on a bike. Some of the most recognized brands rack are: Nitto (Japan), Tubus (Germany), Planet Bike , Portland Design Works , Pletscher ** (Switzerland), Topeak , Axiom , Jandd , Delta , Wald, Paul , Gamoh (Japan), etc. Some brands of bike also design racks under its own brand (eg Surly, Salsa, Civia, Moots, Soma, Velo Orange, etc). * AL: Before Lance. In the business of the bike, the 2011 is the year 12 DL (After Lance). The year zero is 1999, the Texan Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France for 1st time. (6 consecutive win it again, a record). That year also serves as an approximate chronological time in the industry of the bike and bike stores in the U.S.. UU. began to focus more on race bikes to convince non-professional riders that everyone could, or should at least aspire to be like Lance, or ride a bike like him. In general, bikes are of course - but rarely practical, and versatile - the most technologically 'advanced' tend to be more expensive. This increases the industry sales of bikes, and bike shops, but not necessarily increase the happiness of the rider. At this historic moment industry the bike also began to convince riders that professionals should not spend money on clothes and shoes 'special' (eg clothes made of lycra, etc) if they wanted to ride bike. But this is a topic for another day.
** brand Pletscher racks are seen in many of Raleigh bikes and Schwinn decades ago. These racks come preinstalled on the bike. The racks have a 'mouse trap' with springs, which is very useful to hold things in the rack.
